What do I want out of life?
What is my passion?
I actually know now.
I’d be an inventor/creator/designer.
I’d help people feel better and live better and just all around be better.
That seems to make me “weird” these days…definitely not the norm…
I would motivate and encourage others to be as much as they could be…and I’d help them do it. I would brainstorm them into major successes beyond their own imaginings! People with dreams and goals are amazing to me, and I love to hear about all the wild ideas they have and where they see those ideas taking them.
I used to feel like that.
When I was a kid, I loved to write songs and books and poetry…and solve problems and create new ways of doing things and design houses and invent amazing things the world just couldn’t live without. I always wanted to sell my ideas. It’s funny to think about, but I was really sure that I’d be some kind of famous inventor or something.
Or at least have a few patents…yeah, I thought about that stuff when I was a kid…
At some point, I guess I doubted my creativity and entrepreneurial spirit and just accepted that I’d work a traditional job for someone else. I’ve tried that a number of times, and it just really doesn’t work for me. At all.
I remember worrying that my ambition wasn’t “smart enough,” so I’d adjust it accordingly. When I liked things that were pretty or girly, I fought that, too. Pretty and girly didn’t equal smart and successful.
I was really wrong.
Becoming a mom to 2 amazing little girls showed me just how wrong I was. Turns out you can be a problem solver in a sparkly tiara…and it’s totally cool to wear fairy wings to the grocery store…and play in the mud…and do math…and make up crazy lyrics to traditional songs…and I encourage all of this! All the time!
I lost confidence in my own abilities somewhere along the line, but I’m starting to see — at 41 years old — that I’m damn good at a number of things! I definitely don’t question my own intelligence any more. I am a problem solver…and a writer. And, yeah, I like feeling pretty when I’m using my brain power.
If that’s weird, then sign me up…and pass the tiara!
I’m going to build my empire one brick at a time. Join me…I’ll help you build yours, too.
We’re all in this together to make our lives the best that they can be. No competition.
So, my next step towards building the empire of awesomeness is to officially launch this site!
I’ve been online and blogging for a minute, but I really want to celebrate this new creative outlet of mine on Tuesday, March 29! For the big kickoff, I’ll be giving away some great prizes to a few lucky subscribers.
